Each year the National Day of Prayer Task Force provides a theme to unify and guide prayers for the National Day of Prayer. This year's theme is "LIFT UP THE WORD - LIGHT UP THE WORLD."

The National Day of Prayer is a day set aside for people to come together and pray for the nation. It is a time to reflect on the blessings of the nation and to ask for God's help in overcoming challenges.

The National Day of Prayer was first established in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress. In 1988, Congress amended the law to make the first Thursday in May a permanent national holiday.

The National Day of Prayer is a nonpartisan event. It is not affiliated with any particular religion or political party.

People from all walks of life participate in the National Day of Prayer. They gather in churches, synagogues, mosques, and other places of worship. They also gather in schools, workplaces, and homes.
