WEB Doyle Frank Brunson, widely considered the "Godfather of Poker," passed away on May 14, 2023, at the age of 89.
Brunson, known for his distinctive cowboy hat and Texas drawl, was an American poker player who played professionally for over 60 years. He earned the nickname "Texas Dolly" due to his friendly demeanor and infectious laugh.
Brunson's legendary career included winning 10 World Series of Poker tournaments, second only to Phil Hellmuth. He is credited with popularizing Texas Hold'em and is known for his groundbreaking poker strategy books, including "Super/System: A Course in Power Poker" and "Doyle Brunson's Poker Wisdom."
In a statement, Brunson's family described him as "a devoted husband, father, and grandfather." They added, "He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him."
