Proclamation

The Congress by Public Law 100-307 as amended has called on the President to issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer.

Now, therefore, I, [President's Name], President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim Thursday, May 2, 2024, as a National Day of Prayer. I invite the people of the United States to gather together on that day in homes and places of worship to pray for our Nation and for the well-being of all its citizens.

Theme

The theme for the 2024 National Day of Prayer is "Light Up the World." This theme is based on the verse from 2 Samuel 22:29, which says, "For You are my lamp, O Lord; and the Lord will enlighten my darkness."

This verse reminds us that God is our light and our salvation. When we put our trust in Him, He will guide us through the darkest of times. The National Day of Prayer is a time for us to come together and pray for our Nation, our leaders, and our world. It is a time for us to seek God's guidance and to ask for His blessing upon our land.

I encourage all Americans to observe the National Day of Prayer with appropriate ceremonies and activities.

Prayer

Dear God, We come before You today to pray for our Nation. We pray for our leaders, that You would give them wisdom and guidance. We pray for our citizens, that You would protect them from harm and bless them with Your peace. We pray for our world, that You would bring an end to war and violence. We pray for the sick and the suffering, that You would heal them and comfort them. Lord, we need You. We cannot make it through this life without Your help. Please be with us today and every day. Guide us, protect us, and bless us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
