Toronto Forward Will Wear Maple Leafs Sweater for Years to Come
BOSTON (AP) — Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander has agreed to a nine-year, $92 million contract extension with the team.
Nylander, 27, was a restricted free agent and was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
The contract is the richest in total value in Leafs history, surpassing the eight-year, $84 million extension signed by Mitch Marner in 2019.
Nylander has been a key part of the Maple Leafs' offense since he was drafted eighth overall in 2014.
In 59 games this season, he has 34 goals and 29 assists.
Nylander is also a key member of the Maple Leafs' power play, and he has 11 power-play goals this season.
The Maple Leafs are currently trailing the Boston Bruins 1-0 in the Eastern Conference Final.
Nylander is questionable for Game 2 of the series, which will be played on Saturday night in Boston.
