Manchester City crush Real Madrid 4-0 to reach Champions League semi-finals
Eight days on from their 1-1 draw in Madrid, City bossed the second leg in Manchester and prevailed 4-0 on aggregate.
Real Madrid tried to rally after half-time but further goals from Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez sealed their fate.
Manchester City produced a stunning performance to thrash Real Madrid 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, securing a 4-1 aggregate victory and a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
City were in complete control from the off, with Kevin De Bruyne pulling the strings in midfield and Riyad Mahrez a constant threat down the right flank. The home side took the lead in the 10th minute when De Bruyne's cross found Mahrez, who fired home from close range.
Real Madrid struggled to create any clear-cut chances in the first half, and City doubled their lead in the 30th minute when Phil Foden's shot deflected off Eder Militao and into the net.
The visitors came out with more purpose after the break, but City remained solid at the back and always looked dangerous going forward. De Bruyne made it 3-0 in the 75th minute with a superb strike from outside the box, and Julian Alvarez added a fourth in the 89th minute to seal a memorable victory.
City will now face either Chelsea or Arsenal in the semi-finals, while Real Madrid must lick their wounds and focus on the La Liga title race.
