HILLCREST, San Diego – A suspected drunken motorist drove on a Hillcrest sidewalk lined with busy bars early Saturday morning, endangering pedestrians and businesses. Police are investigating the incident and searching for the suspect.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Fifth Avenue between University Avenue and Washington Street. The suspect, described as a male in his 20s, was driving a silver sedan when he drove onto the sidewalk and struck a light pole.
The impact of the collision shattered the light pole and caused significant damage to the suspect's vehicle. Witnesses said the suspect appeared to be intoxicated and attempted to flee the scene on foot.
